An awesome first grader worked on this design for a few minutes each art class since the beginning of the year. Now that's determination!

Gyotaku Fish Rubbings

2nd graders are learning about the Japanese art of gyotaku (gee-yo-ta-koo). Fisherman dating back as far as the 1800's would coat their catch with ink and covered with a thin paper to obtain a record of the fish details. Students had a chance to make a print using Japanese rice paper and rubber fish. We are going to use the fish to create an underwater collage. Stay tuned!
