An awesome first grader worked on this design for a few minutes each art class since the beginning of the year. Now that's determination!

Illuminated Manuscript-inspired 3-D Letters

HELLO from 5th grade

3-D letters after the newspaper layer receive a layer of fadeless paper.

Here are all of 5th grade's letters waiting to be finished.  After the fadeless paper layer, students will collage magazines and newspaper items relating to themselves onto the 3-D letter.

Step 1: Draw a block letter with the bottom edges being flat.  All of those paper towel rolls finally came in handy!  We cut them into 2" sections and taped them onto the poster board letter.

Make sure students flatten the cardboard tube to ensure correct measuring!

Using 2" poster board strips, students worked (this is the challenging part, but everyone was successful! Yahoo!) to tape the letter closed.  Having masking tape dispensers for each table proved to be the best budget money spent yet.

Finished product- ready to be paper mached!
