White Makes it Light!
To teach tints and shades, I print out a paint palette (like the one below) and laminate them. Students can practice mixing colors in the circles. I show how to use small amounts of white for darker values and larger amounts of white for light values (tints).
WOW! Check out what 2D's class is creating inspired by the Hula Hoop weavings seen on Pinterest. They also have a weaving club where students can learn to weave and finger knit during recess.
